Default Cut viking flower stalk

My mirabilis globosa tried to flower 2 months ago. Before the flower fully developed, top quarter of it was damaged by bird. Since it is a male plant, flower is of not much use. I took the opportunity pruned back the stem. Thought it should help preserve the plant's energy.

Though new shoots emerged by now, it persists to flower by putting up 2 short flower spikes. Thinking to let it proceed this round. Any advice?
