Germinating VFT seeds
« Thread Started on 9 May, 2007, 0:22 »This is the way I used to germinate VFT & Sarracenia seeds. The germinating rate is high. Sundew seeds are too small for this method.

1. Get a transparent glass, fill with some purified or rain water.

2. Place the glass at where you are going to put it for seeds germination, cover the glass with a piece of cling film, open up the cling film a little at one side, then sprinkle the seeds in the water, cover the cling film back, don't move the glass any more after that, a slight shake on the glass may flush the seeds on the water surface to stick on the side of the glass, the seeds will just dry out and die.

3. leave it in shade for a couple of weeks till seeds germinated. The older the seeds, the longer it germinate, I experienced seeds germinated within two weeks.

4. After seeds germinated, wait till they grow some roots then transfer them to appropriate potting media. Drip a few drops of water to each baby VFT to make sure the roots are properly covered by the potting media. Sit the pot in maximum 2cm of water, let the water to dry out, then refill again. After two to three days, you may transfer them under direct sun light. Treat them as you do to adult plant.

5. You will need to have something (plastic/glass sheet) to cover on top to protect them from rain, but allow air circulation, or else the hot air gather there may kill your babies!

Wish you luck and happy growing.
