Default Growing Aldrovanda vesiculosa in Malaysia- a short writeup

Richard blessed with a consignment of Aldrovanda at the end of May 2008. Thanks again Richard. Included some pictures below. Not very well taken though. Nothing in June because I was more attached to my baby than to visit my little pond- which is at my parent's house.

This is how it initially arrived in, Sandwiched between wet kitchen towers. Yes the black stuff is decomposing plants.

Took this picture a week later. What's left is just a short tip about an inch and a half.

The growing tank. 2' by 4' in open sun with other plants as neighbours. Water has been prepared about a month before and the other plants about planted a week before. Also threw a couple of gourami, SAE in to control algae and mosquito larvae.

This is recent photo.

The colony

Now some closeup.

Measurements
Didn't have any instrument off hand so I estimated this strand to be about 7 inches. The longest in the tank.

That's all for now folks. Thanks for your attention.

So nice your plant is growing and thriving. Hmm, got to try it again in the near future but this time I've got to set up the tank properly first.

Your plants look great. You have obviously got the conditions right. This is a plant I am hoping to have a go at myself in the next year. I just need to get set up for it!

It appears from the timeline and the photo's that they are growing and multiplying rapidly for you.

Looking back, I think I was too complacent to check the creeping invasion of algae. Very embarass to announce that my aldro has unceremoniously come to a sad close. Algae killed them all despite my wife gently finger bushing strand by strand, changing water, Yamoto shrimp etc.

There is salvation afterall, Jonathan managed to overcome the algae problem in his thread https://forum.petpitcher.net/showthread.php?t=1498 Do go have a read, its good!

Oh well, It took me several years to finally get it right, so don't lose any sleep over it! I'll send some more to you next year, I literally have them growing by the millions now, in at least two places! However, they are all dormant for the winter, but will return in late April, early May! - Rich
