Aldro recovery...

Hi All...

On August of 2008 i receive a couple strands of Aldrovanda from a dear friend "thanks again bro" and when they just started to establish in sept they were massively attacked by algae it took me almost 1 and a half month to clear those algae and my Aldrovanda have just recover from it...

Here is the glazed 25" clay pot i have setup 3 month before i receive those beautiful Aldrovanda which i use peat and sand as base...

Here i would like to share the method i use to clear those slimy algae...

Firstly i overflow the whole pot for 3min(which is around 30% water change) every 2 days(for 1 and a half month) with rain water and i have added 1 Zebra Pelicos and 4 black molly together with 6 Yamato shrimp shrimp into the pot... i'm not sure weather those Yamato are still there but those house keeper molly and pelicos are surely doing a good job...
for now i do 30% water change every week to help keep the nutrient level low...

Thanks for sharing. May I ask, that first photo, is there aldrovanda in there already? It looks like you had a bunch of aldros in that pot in that photo.

You also have those floating plants, i wonder if they are considered beneficial for Aldros, I know the lilies will help.

Did you try injecting CO2? Any special feeding?

Hi Arvin,

Yes there is already Aldro in there because all the photo was taken today...

Those floating plants helps to suck up nutrient in water...

I did not add any co2 or any feeding into the pot... but they seems like growing happily when they are free from algae...

Wow there are lots already in your pot, hehehe, I see Bactrus is hinting about getting some from you to start his Aldro cultivation again Can anyone ID the floating plant in Jonathan's container? I have this or similar species with me in my pond too.

The name if those floating plants are "Salvinia minima" '

Oh, so he is the source of your Aldros, that is nice, that is the reason why I like sharing plants with others, so that if my culture dies, and someone else has it, then I can ask for a starter culture. Sort of like a back up

Thanks for the ID, The common name is water spangles, unfortunately it is a Fern and not a monocote, I guess not going to be beneficial for Aldros as Rich suggested that Moncotes are beneficial to Aldros. Anyways do not fix that is not broken by changing what plants you have now, though you of course trim or take off some of those water spangles when they are covering too much of the water surface. I myself am trying CO2 injection, I'm desperate.

Yes sharing is the best way to improve this community and also when something happen to those that we have in hand we can always be sure that there will be other who have it^^

Yes i does trim them once a week because they are worse them weed hahas
