VFT leaf propagation

How long does leaf cutting(more like pulling) grow new babys?

Cause I've just peeled 2 leafs.

Put them on a good medium bedding, and don't inspect them daily, just water and don't look, they will grow faster that way hehehe! Seriously. The two times that I was sucessful in getting plantlets from Leaf cuttings, were the two times that I completely forgot about them. I put my cuttings in the same pot as my VFT, so they get watered the same time. I only noticed that they have plantlets when I saw the leaves. That being said I imagine 1 to 2 months I think. I don't swear by it but I used Dried sphagnum moss with some perlite as medium, as I said I just stuck them in the same pot as my VFT.

I checked the cuttings today. The leaf are dying but the white end is getting redder. Why?

That's normal. Don't always take the cuttings out, ignore it and you find some small plantlet emerge from the white end of the leaf eventually. It normally takes two to three weeks.

Hmm, they look better than when I tried propogating a VFT by cutting. I used old peat moss and so the cuttings molded. Did you use rooting powder on yours?

Hope they grow for you. And like cactustts and arvin said, make sure you avoid checking on the plants.

Plantlover...you can buy rooting powder from the supermarkets......try the gardening section...costs about rm5-10 i think. it does help with the propagation.

I did my leaf propagation with pure sphagnum moss, very wet. The water level should be same level as the sphagnum moss, place the pot in bright place without direct sunlight or else the hot sun will boil the cuttings.

Seeds/cutting germinate/root well under shade with a couple of hours morning sun... Placing them under full sun you will encourage algae, heat build up and ect which will eventually cover your seeds/cutting with slimy algae or fry them....

Ignore them then they will grow faster, like a child parents don't find them all gowned up since they care for them too much...

Oh, btw the leaf cutting looks too young for propagation and your plant does look too young to do leaf pulling too...

I think i see more then one growing point there... or your rhizome is getting bigger eventually in time they will give out baby from the side then you can split them it's easier then doing leaf propagation...

If you want a batter rate leaf propagation try to provide one string of root attached to the leaf when you do leaf pulling that will speed up that process...

I notice cute little very very short leaves on the side of the bulb. Dare not pull. I'm afraid the whole plant will die!
