Sarra ID please
currently having a few sarras and hope to get some help here to ID in order for me to tag them correctly. i know the hybrid are quite hard to ID and i had 'HARD' time chosing them too. spoilt by choices and feeling like to purchase all of them home.
sarra1 sarra2 sarra1 and 2 same plant, diff view. sarra3 sarra4 sarra3 and 4 same plant, diff view. sarra5 if not mistaken this is s. flava. however need advice on this plant because the lid are browning. what is the action cause? sarra6 sarra7 sarra6 and 7 same plant, diff view. theres one pitcher that grows into the moss and get distorted and the other lid is missing. should i snip it off and leave as it is? sarra8 sarra9 sarra8 and 9 same plant, diff view. anyone? sarra1 & 2 = sarra3 & 4 = sarra5 = s. flava sarra6 & 7 = sarra8 & 9 = thank you in advanced! help needed too on this thread below. https://forum.petpitcher.net/show...2480#post22480 Last edited by kevyn chan; 4th November 2009 at 12:41 PM. |

Re: Sarra ID please
Sarra 1 & 2 - S purpurea hybrid
Sarra 3 & 4 - S purpurea venosa Sarra 5- looks like flava but can you provide a side profile shot. Flava has a constriction where the hood comes from like it has been pinched. Sarra 6 & 7 - hybrid Sarra 8 & 9 - hybrid with leucophylla as one of the parents. Hope this helps and I am happy to be corrected if anyone has another opinion |

Re: Sarra ID please
I have no comments on the ID but I think your sarras need more light.. Your growing area seems too shady, if all the sun they are getting is from the window.. Sarras need very bright light and can stand direct sun (provided the moss doesn't dry out)..

noted on the advice. fyi, the pots are not getting direct sunlight only morning sunlight therefore i am regularly changing the 'display pots' with those from my house. do you think artifial light (not sunlight) is beneficial? |

Re: Sarra ID please
I don't think sarracenias, or any CP for that matter will do well if brought in for display like ornamental foliage plants because they need a lot of sun to grow and thrive well. you will need very bright artificial lighting for growing indoors successfully. If you place your sarras in bright sun, you'll find that they produce larger pitchers with more glorious colour..
