Hey guys...I started growing 2 vandas and realized they were really easy and free flowering..So i guess i got poisoned buy the orchid bug
![]() If so please recommend some commonly sold orchids which can grow well here. I saw some at sungai buloh nursery with just 2 broad shiny leaves and some which looks like they have bulbs at the base..Anyway please recommend some ![]() Another thing, If the bloom is smaller then the previous bloom does that mean i need to fertilize more? Cause i haven't been doing that haha ![]() Thanks

LOTS. There are countless numbers of hot-growing orchids as most come from the tropics. For a beginner, stay away from more challenging intermediate/cool types until you can master their cultivation. Try Dendrobium, Cattleya, Oncidium (dancing ladies), Phalaenopsis (moth orchid), smaller vanda types (Ascocenda, Ascocentrum), Doritis, Spathoglottis etc... The most important thing in orchid growing is that they are very different from CPs. The roots do not like to be wet permanently, and best growth is achieved by giving rapid regular wetting/drying cycles, which means very well-drained, airy media.

Wow the Cattleya and Phalaenopsis seems nice....Can phals be grown and flowered here? I always thought they needed cool temperatures to grow and flower..Very interested since the plant itself is small

yes, phals can flower easily in lowland... cooling is just to trigger blooming at desired time (for CNY etc).. they need bright filtered light, although not as much as neps. more like ampullaria or drosera adelae..
